Breathtaking scenery enhances this annual adventure. Whether you are a beginner on the ropes or a seasoned veteran, there will be something for everyone on the cliffs. The great group of people drawn to this activity and our expert outfitter (Al Parker) both will encourage you to move up to the next level of difficulty on the ropes, but everyone is allowed to set their own pace. Hearing Al's perspectives on what formed this incredible area of cliffs and boulders will be one you have not heard before.

Special Requests Possible - If you have specific topics you would like our guide, Al Parker, to touch on, please e-mail our trip coordinator, Cindy at cindyjulius@akronfossils.com. Also be sure to let us know if you have had previous rappelling experience or if this is your first time.

The price includes use of climbing harnesses, carabineers, helmets, ropes, and several creation mini talks on geological features and wildlife in the Hocking Hills area by expert naturalist and outfitter, Al Parker.  All attendees on the cliffs (even spectators) are required to make full payment due to insurance considerations.

Monies are due with sign up. Payments can be by credit card by calling the Science Center at 330-665-DINO (3466) or by making a check out to Akron Fossils & Science Center.  Cancelations due to severe weather will be the judgment call of Al Parker and rain dates, if necessary, will be chosen by the group.  Please note that some light rain during the day is normal for this area.

RESTRICTIONS: Participants must be between 50 and 300 lbs.  Parents are asked to evaluate their child's level of maturity and listening skills when deciding to have them participate as there are naturally inherent dangers on the cliffs.

Printed and signed release forms must be mailed to:

Akron Fossils & Science Center
Attn: Cindy Julius
2080 S. Cleveland Massillon Rd.
Copley, OH 44321

The registration deadline is Thursday, August 2nd, 2012.

FYI - some of us camp in the area at the end of the day at Top Of The Caves.

The actual rendezvous location is at the Old Man's Cave parking lot. The parking lot is located just a few hundred yards west of the Visitor Center that the map directs you to. The parking lot is located on the right hand side of the road (the Visitor Center is on the left hand side a few hundred yards east).

*Indoor bathrooms can be found across the street from the Old Man's Cave parking lot at the trail head to Old Man's Cave.

Finding the Team

Look for the white 15 passenger vans with the Canoe Creation logoCanoe Creation plastered on the side.

Our guide, Al Parker, and his team will be waiting for you with all of the gear. The guides will lead all of the participants by car-pool from the Old Man's Cave parking lot to the Conkle's Hollow rappelling area.
