Museum Remodel Update
We have recently acquired new space in the museum  building which has allowed us to remodel and reorganize. Sanderson Lecture Hall has moved into a new 900 square foot room!  Adjacent to the new lecture hall is even more space which will soon house the Live Animal Collection and the new Research Library. We are currently accepting donations of creation science and secular science books, videos, and CDs. Please contact our librarian, Mark Sebastian, through our main office for more information or to donate items. Thanks!

The Great Backyard Bird Count
The Bird Count will be taking place across the country Feb. 17-20. Join us at the museum for a fun workshop with our rappelling trip guide Al Parker on Saturday Feb. 18th. He will have live birds to view and will be talking about birds! The Science Adventure Club students will be counting birds throughout the day on Friday Feb. 17th for the Bird Count. Science Adventure Club meets on Fridays 3:30-5:30 pm.

New Live Animal Collection
We are pleased to announce the addition of live animals to our museum! The animals will be making their debut at our first Creature Feature animal encounter on March 24th. Come join us for this workshop and touch or hold some cute cuddlies or creepy crawlies! Our animal ambassadors help us study our created world as we explore their characteristics and design features. Our animals can also travel to your church, school, or other location with our Animal Tracks program.

Lecture Series 2012
Our Lecture Series kicked off with a great start on January 21st at 7 pm! “Stewardship of Energy Resources” was the topic from chemist Dr. Al Gotch. In February, our Hocking Hills rappelling trip guide Al Parker will be giving an ornithology (birds) lecture and workshop. Check out our other dates for the Lecture Series on our website. A suggested donation of $2 per person or $8 per family is appreciated for each lecture.

More info can be found here soon

Holiday Camp 2011
The kids had a great time at “Merry Migration” our 2nd Annual Holiday Camp this year! We studied migration patterns of birds, whales, butterflies, zebras, and penguins, to name a few. The favorite was the Christmas Island crab migration for reproduction. The four days were jam-packed with fun, learning, and of course hot chocolate!

Super Science Saturday
Another full year of classes just finished and we are excited to start the next year. Our science learning is going a little deeper through weekly classes and monthly unit studies. We have seen some fantastic growth among our students! We are starting our learning this year with Soap Science in January with several experiments involving soap and the scientific method! That should be some good clean fun! Check our website for the entire year’s list of topics. And remember, there is no better place for the young scientist than at AFSC every Saturday 10-11:30 am!!

Thank You!!!
Greg Spickard, Josiah Detwiler, and Jessica Bee-Willis did a fantastic job putting our annual auction together in November. Thanks for your hard work! Jessica, our Administrative Assistant, recently left the museum to move back to Florida. She did a wonderful job making important marketing inroads and increasing our gift shop revenue. She will be greatly missed and we wish her the best!

Birthday Parties
We now have three different package themes to choose from: Wacky Mad Scientist, Getting Dusty Digging for Dinos, and Amazing Astronomy! Our party rooms have been remodeled and renovated into bigger and brighter rooms. Book a party with us and you will not be disappointed!

Corporate Meeting Rooms Available for Rent!!
Our rooms can now be rented for corporate meetings or overnight lock-ins! Call for more information or see our website at akronfossils.com/parties.

Species Spotlight: Rabbit
Habitat: All continents except Antarctica. Found in grasslands, forests, mountains, deserts, swamps.
Diet: Vegetation
Size: Can reach up to 15 lbs and 2 ft long
Classification: Class Mammalia (mammals); Order Lagomorpha (rabbits, hares, pikas); Family Leporidae; over 50 species.
The rabbit’s skin is not attached to the body. Just like some lizards will lose a tail to escape a predator, the rabbit can lose a piece of skin to a predator and escape.
There are over 60 breeds of domestic rabbit!
Rabbits practice coprophagy, in which the rabbits partially digest their food, pass it out of the body, eat the feces, and digest it again.
In the United States rabbits are the only animal considered pets, food, and pests simultaneously!

Monthly Giving
We continue to be debt free, but only with your help. Regular monthly donors are essential in financing the general upkeep of the museum as well as our expansions and broadening outreach. If you would like to have your church add us to their missions board, or would like to donate monthly yourself, please contact our Outreach Director, Josiah Detwiler. He can be reached by phone at the museum or through email. You can also give securely on our website. Thank you!
