Founders Fodder
by William Sanderson, II
We start by saying “Thank You” for the wonderful support we have received from all of you. The Silent Auction was a success (a total of $9,751 was raised!) and we even had an “Online After-Auction” to sell leftover items.

It looks as though this year will indeed exceed last year, making 2010 our best overall year ever. We already have plans to move aggressively into next year-featuring our Holiday Camp and the Science Fair. Please consider your participation in these events.
The proceeds from the Auction will enable us to make further upgrades to our technology and improvements to the classroom for Cindy and Birthday Party events for Jodie. We wish Sharon Jones, who moved back to Toledo last month, the best and thank her for her loyal support last year as our Children’s Program Director. We also welcome Jodie Brewer who has a plateful of ideas that she is anxious to implement. Watch for what we have planned in our coming emails and newsletters. Our planning for 2011 starts now.
May your holiday season be blessed.
Sincerely,
William Sanderson

From the Director
by Josiah Detwiler
We are continuing to turn our focus toward building partnerships that will enlarge the outreach territory of the Science Center. Our goal is to link arms with influential supporters who will aid us in spreading the message that there is a Creator and that the knowledge of Him is vital for making scientific discoveries, as well as discovering the purpose and meaning of life.
I am continuing to increase the number of my off-site speaking presentations. Not only do I have a "virtual tour" of the museum called "Museum in a Backpack" but I also have developed a ten-week workshop series in which I break down the creation science information into more bite-size pieces. All of my presentations can be modified for groups of literally all ages (kindergarten through college and beyond). Please give me a call or send me an email.
I am organizing a guided day trip to Niagara Falls, NY this spring. The significance of Niagara Falls to the “age of the earth” debate is critical because it was at this very site that geologist Charles Lyell gathered figures (what were later discovered to be fallacious) for the erosion rates of the Falls through the Niagara Gorge. In his mind, this proved that the Falls were much older than a straight-forward reading of biblical chronology would allow. But geologists now know that the Falls could erode the Gorge much faster than Charles Lyell believed. Don’t take my word for it, come to Niagara Falls this spring and see the evidence for yourself!
We are beginning to outgrow our building. Please pray that we would connect with the right individuals who would be able to financially support our organization in a significant way. If fifty donors gave $50 dollars a month we could reach our 2010 $30,000 goal! We call this giving plan the Nifty 50 Club! Please consider becoming a monthly donor—no matter how much or how little you are able to contribute.

Science Class News
by Cindy Julius
Winter is such a good time to snuggle up with your computer or a good book and focus on learning. In addition, naturalists have often used that time to sort through collections they have made during the year. Plan on bringing your collection to the 2011 Science Fair Convention here at the museum, May 7. You’ll want to check out the guidelines as soon as possible at akronfossils.com/science-fair.
We also welcome films, drawings, models (no kits please), experiments and computer research. There will be avenues for sharing for both adults and children. Don’t keep your discoveries to yourself, plan on coming to share! All presentations must honor the Creator as described in the guidelines to qualify for participation in the convention.

Kids Zone & Birthday Parties
by Jodie Brewer
Hi. My name is Jodie Brewer. I am the new Children's Director here at the Akron Fossils and Science Center. I have been bubbling over with anticipation concerning getting started here in my new position. I have already begun dreaming up some new exciting plans for this coming year.
My first project so far was the renovation of the Birthday Party room to enhance thematic elements to create imagination and wonder. Launching in January 2011, a new plan for themed birthday party packages will be available. The two new themed packages to choose from are the "Wacky Mad Scientist" package and the "Getting Dusty and Digging Dinosaurs" package. Continue to check the website for upcoming details and new pricing plans.
Another area that I will be working on for the upcoming new year will be the creation of some new SUPER DUPER FUN "Super Science Saturday" themes and lessons plans. Then, after we get through the cold chill of winter, keep your eyes open for some special spring and summer adventures to arise. Looking forward to many hours of exploring God's creation with you!
