  Sunday Fall Kick Off '09
    September 13, 2009 from 2:00 – 5:00 pm
at the Northside Christian Church in Wadsworth, OH

Kids enjoying our fossil dig

Our fossil dig in our tent at the Sunday Fall Kick Off '09 at Northside Church was a huge hit! The Fall Kick Off '09 was free and was designed for the whole family! There was free food, inflatables, corn hole, an euchre tournament, and games for all ages!

Todd Styer (a frequent lecturer in our Lecture Series and a member of our advisory board) had an information tent next to our tent with his exhaustive creation related science and apologetics materials from his Defender's of Creation Sunday School class that he teaches at Northside.

CRSEF - 11th Annual Fossil Hunt
Saturday, September 12th, 2009 from 12:00 to 3:00 p.m.
Trammel Fossil Park, Tramway Dr., Sharonville, OH 45241
Suggested donation of $2 per person or $5 per family to the CRSEF

The Creation Research, Science Education Foundation (CRSEF) of Columbus is hosting their 11th Annual Fossil Hunt on Saturday, September 12th from 12:00 to 3:00 p.m. at Trammel Fossil Park at Tramway Dr., Sharonville, OH 45241.

Dr. John Whitmore Professor of Geology at Cedarville University, Cedarville, Ohio, will be the guide and lecturer.  John will help you identify the fossils you find, which you are permitted to keep!

Plan to have fun! Bring your friends and relatives too!

- It is a good idea to wear clothes, you don't mind getting dirty, as the fossil hunt area is rugged.
- Some light digging tools are good to bring, as digging it is allowed to search for fossils.
- Bring a container, if you will allow the children (or adults!) to take fossils home with them.  This is allowed!
- The size of fossils taken is up to the adults!
- Bring chairs if you would like to sit down as there is very little seating available.
- There is a fairly large area covered by cement, the CRSEF will have a couple of tents setup for protection from the sun, hopefully not from rain!
- A suggested donation of $2 per person or $5 per family to the CRSEF will be accepted to help cover the cost of this event.

CRSEF will supply water and paper towels for hand washing, before light refreshments are served during Dr. Whitmore's presentation.

This is a fun family event, but some of the entertainment may be up to the parent/adults at times (i.e. you know the attention span of the children you are bringing)!

The fossil hunt area is hilly, and could be somewhat dangerous.  Caution needs to be observed, and small children should not be unescorted in the fossil hunt area.

We had many happy visitors stop by our tent. Children and adults, alike, came running over to dig for fossils in our table-top “Dino Dig.” Many visitors had not heard about us before so it was good to have a presence at the festival!

Clifford-the-big-red-dog even stopped by our tent to get his picture with our “Burning Tree Mastodon” femur-bone and a smiling little girl.

Cell Phone Recycling Collection Box Now at the Science Center

Cell Phone Recycling Collection at the Science Center

Estimates predict that over 1 billion mobile phones will be manufactured world-wide in 2009. What will happen to the old or broken cell phones? The potential for recycling these electronic devices is essential for being good stewards of God’s creation.

Recycling your used and broken cell phones is a great way to help raise funds for the Akron Fossils & Science Center. Our 501(c)3 non-profit organization will receive a small amount of money for every pound of cell phones donated. Cell phones can be dropped off at the museum during our regular business hours or after hours by placing your cell phones in a plastic bag and hanging them on our door knob on the Minor Rd. side of the museum.

You can purchase a DVD of Todd presenting this very same lecture at the Science Center in 2008. The book
God’s Promise to the Chinese People is also for sale in our Gift Shop. This book describes, in detail, the same information that Todd presented in his fascinating lecture.

Copley Heritage Day Parade— A great opportunity to volunteer!
  August 2nd, 5:30 - 8:30 p.m.

Come help us with our float
Volunteers will be meeting at the Science Center at 5:30 p.m. to load-up and ride over to the parade line-up (close by Copley High School) where the rest of the float can be assembled. The parade starts at 7:00 p.m.

Volunteers will walk alongside the float and pass out candy and Dino-Dollar coupons. Children (and children at heart) are also needed to ride on the float to wave at onlookers and help re-stock the parade-walkers with candy and Dino-Dollars. This parade is a great opportunity for your whole family to help support the Science Center in a practical hands-on way.

Last year, our float won 3rd place in the whole parade and this year we are trying to make our float even better—but we can’t do it alone!

Please call the Science Center to
RSVP or submit a brief volunteer form.

Admission Price Increased on July 1st
On July 1, 2008 we raised our admission prices at Akron Fossils and Science Center (AFSC). We have not changed our prices since we first opened in May 2005 and the museum and park have undergone some major changes since then. We have added several new exhibits and updated some older ones this past year and have raised our admission prices to match the changes. Our prices are still very competitive with other museums in our area.

Our birthday parties have also undergone a price change to accommodate the new tour options and new add-ons. You can see the new admission prices by clicking on our admission page and see the new and improved birthday party selections. Thank you for all your support as we celebrate our fourth summer season as Ohio’s first creation science museum.
