Birding Events with Al Parker

Al Parker was trained as a wildlife biologist at Purdue University. He became a Christian after college and insisted on being baptized in Hamer Creek, where cold water pours from a cave mouth. His 20 years of work for the Indiana Department of Natural Resources gave him the opportunity to re-introduce Bald Eagles, Peregrine Falcons, and River Otters. His interests in all kinds of wildlife, wild plants, and wild places and his love of kids led him to direct wildlife conservation camps at the Wilds in SE Ohio for another 7 years. Al and his wife, Amy, have an outdoor ministry called Canoe Creation where they combine faith, a fascination with God's handiwork, and their desire to share outdoor fun with others, rappelling from cliffs and canoeing down rivers. Canoe Creations leads our annual end of the summer rappelling trip in Hocking Hills State Park!

Saturday's Schedule:

Offsite Birding Class | 9-11 a.m. | $5 per person or $20 per family
Join us as Al Parker leads an interactive birding opportunity. We will observe the winter birds of Ohio, learn to identify some of the more common birds, and learn interesting facts about our wintertime visitors. Wear warm clothing (as we will be sitting still a lot) and please bring your own binoculars, camera, and good mud boots. Quiet children are welcome! Meet at the site listed below promptly.
Location: Wolf Creek Environmental Center also called Alderfer-Oenslager Wildlife Sanctuary next to 5998 Ridge Rd, Sharon, OH 44281.

Creature Feature  - The Wonder of Wings | 2-3 p.m. | $3 per person
Al Parker will be bringing his live falcon to help demonstrate the magnificence of birds! Join us for this exciting workshop and get up close to this wonderful creature! Learn about how birds hunt, what they eat, and of course how to respect these wild animals.
Location: Akron Fossils & Science Center in Sanderson Lecture Hall

Evening Lecture - Ornithology | 7-8 p.m. | $3 per person / $10 per family (suggested donation)
Come hear Al Parker as he discusses the mechanics of flight, how the anatomy of birds is designed for a life of flying, and the importance of birds in our world. This will be a terrific lecture to learn more about those beautiful creatures we see everyday.
