| What to Bring on a 5 Day Canoe Trip We suggest you take the following items: 1 pr. boots (8-10 top) 1 pr. moccasins or sneakers 2 pr. wool socks 3 sets underwear 1 flannel shirt 1 wool shirt 2 cotton shirt Pajamas (if you sleep in them) A light, warm jacket 2 pr. tight weave pants (jeans are okay) Wide brimmed hat Bathing suit Rain gear or poncho Belt-knife Compass Flashlight Sleeping bag Light-weight sleeping matt (to insulate you from the cold, hard ground) Pliers (your guide will have a pair) Sunglasses Small sharpening stone (your guide will have one) Toilet articles (half a role in a Ziplock® bag) Wash cloth & towel Chap-stick Insect repellent Biodegradable body soap & shampoo Hand soap/sanitizer (Purell® recommended) Suntan lotion Memo pad or small notebook to keep a trip log Camera & film we recommend disposable cameras kept in a double Ziplock® bag Insulated underwear (not needed) A good paperback or deck of cards is well worth its weight on a rainy day. And dont forget to bring a small travel Bible, if you have one, as we will be having an impromptu worship service on Sunday and creation talks and devotionals in the evenings around the campfire. Rods Spinning or spin casting rods are the all-around best choice for our areas walleye, bass, northern and lake trout. Fly rod? Bring it along use poppers or streamers and you can have a great time with the smallmouth bass. Lures Bring your favorite tackle, but try to keep it compact a few spoons, plugs, leaders, hooks and sinkers with a few jigs thrown in should do it. For your convenience there is a tackle shop at the Way of the Wilderness where we will be departing from. Help for Beginners If this is your first canoe trip we will be happy to demonstrate how to paddle a canoe, the proper way to pick it up, and correct loading. We will drill you on safety procedures and what to do if you should capsize etc. We will also show you how easily the tents are pitched, and advise you in the use of camping equipment.
