Many of our visitors ask how they can learn more about the interesting facts and informative exhibits in our museum. Of course we always recommend people to our great resources in our gift shop. We also have 12 different science classes designed just specifically present information from our museum exhibits in a more detailed way to help you and your students expand your knowledge of creation. What more is that we have designed our Specialized Science Classes to meet many of Ohios K-12 Science Standards!
Our Specialized Science Classes focus on the hands-on aspect of learning. We answer hard questions about topics like the limitations of natural selection and heredity, dinosaur extinction theories, reasons for a young solar system, the catastrophic nature of the geologic column, and the timeframe of the Ice Age, and weather and design patterns in nature. Current issues and recent scientific discoveries (such as global warming) are also discussed in our classes.

Information for Teachers
Our science classes are specifically designed to help teachers meet Ohios K-12 Science Standards. We can present a wide variety of fascinating, hands-on science topics that our enthusiastic and knowledgeable teaching staff can present at our Science Center or at your school. All of our class topics are appropriate for any age group. (The level of difficulty for the in-class experiments and accompanying review sheets will be catered to the age of your students.)
Two of the benchmarks for Ohios K-12 Science Standards are Scientific Inquiry and Scientific Ways of Knowing. These two benchmarks explain the tools needed in a scientific investigation and the application of the scientific method in reaching conclusions. Both of these benchmarks are included in all of our science classes. Our classes encourage students to develop critical thinking by teaching students how to apply the scientific principles they learn to help them solve problems and create useful tools that can help others in their daily lives.

12 Class Topics We Offer...
|
Earth and Space Sciences
Rock Formation & Geologic Column Study evidence of slow and rapid processes that have changed the Earths surface. Explore cutting edge science that supports a catastrophic interpretation of the geologic column.
Plate Tectonics Learn how the Earths crusts are divided into tectonic plates. Learn why earthquakes, volcanoes, hot spots, and mountains are often a result of plate motion. Study models that shows how the continents may have moved throughout history and how scientists study the ancient past.
Our Solar System Investigate how the sun, moon and stars all interact in the universe. Learn how the Sun and Moon and planets protect the Earth.
Earth Systems (Weather) Observe how weather changes occur throughout the day, month, year, and millennia. Take measurements and observations during the class time.
Physical Science
Hands-On Physics Investigate a variety of ways to make things move and what causes them to change speed, direction and/or stop. Predict the changes when an object experiences a force. Experiments conducted outside in Truassic Park.
Design Patterns Explore intricate patterns in nature as seen in the internal structure of plants, snowflakes, cells and even galaxies. What can scientists conclude from these patterns? Find objects with patterns in Truassic Park.
Life Sciences
Ohio History Study beavers, mastodons and other creatures from Ohios fossil record. Compare and classify Ohio plants and describe changes in their appearance over the seasons. Also explore features (with maps) left by glaciers during the Ice Age..
Heredity and Natural Selection Compare similarities and differences among individuals of the same kind of plants and animals, including people. Are similarities evidence of common descent or a common creator?
Plants in the Fossil Record Compare living plants with plants from the fossil record. Explore coal formation theories and learn about plants and how they are necessary for life. Investigate ways in which animals depend on plants and each other in our community.
Fossils from Around the World Fossils provide evidence about animals from the past and the nature of the environment at that time. Observe that extinct organism resemble organism alive today. Why?
Dinosaur Extinction Theories Learn about the dinosaurs from their fossils. Discover the limitations scientists have when reconstructing the dinosaurs. Compare dinosaur fossil sites from around the world. Take a historical look at dinosaurs and their correlation with dragon legends.
Science and Technology
Ancient Technology Explore and interpret surprising lost advanced technologies from different ancient people groups around the world. See authentic and working replica artifacts and learn how the ancient may have used them. |
